D6 Project: We Are Not Okay

ABOUT
D6 Project: We Are Not Okay
Project Synopsis
The D6 Project: We Are Not Okay is a powerful national initiative that confronts the urgent connection between climate change, natural disasters, and mental health. Rooted in the lived experiences of Hurricane Dorian survivors—many of whom also endured the global trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic—this campaign brings national focus to communities disproportionately impacted by overlapping crises.
At the heart of the project is a commitment to healing, resilience, and education. We Are Not Okay shines a spotlight on the often-overlooked mental health consequences of climate disasters. Through compelling educational films, community-based programming, and the development of accessible mental health resources, D6 is driving awareness and action where it’s needed most.
The campaign launches with the premiere of the first film in the series, also titled We Are Not Okay. This deeply human documentary features firsthand accounts from survivors in Abaco, Grand Bahama, and New Providence. It offers an intimate look into the emotional toll of displacement and recovery. The next installment will expand the narrative to include those affected in Eleuthera, Exuma, the United States, and Canada.
But this is more than a film— it’s a four-phase national movement to raise awareness, increase access to mental health resources, and motivate action across our islands.

Mental Health Is Everybody's Business
Mental Health
According to the World Health Organization, mental health conditions are increasing worldwide. WHO noted in a 2022 report that there has been a 13 percent global increase in mental health conditions, precipitated by COVID 19 pandemic and other factors. Depression and anxiety went up by more than 25 % during the first year of the pandemic, adding to the more than one billion people living with mental health disorders........
Disaster Mental Health
One of the factors that increase mental health needs is natural disasters. Despite the fact that most humans are resilient, it takes a long time to recover from natural disasters. When all of one’s life has been traumatically upheaved, physically, emotionally, mentally, economically through loss of life, loss of possessions, loss of livelihood, the toll on human capacity is stretched beyond the ability to cope.........
